Hawaii island, also known as The Big Island, is not as well known as other Hawaiian islands. It doesn’t have the big city (Honolulu) of Oahu or the world famous surfing on Maui.
Although roughly the same size as Phuket, it’s riddled with mountains and traveling to see all of the sights can take hours.
But the sights are worth it! You can visit a snowy mountain, a volcano, and a pink (or black, or green) sand beach all in one trip.
Getting there was a little difficult as the flight from Tokyo to Kona had been suspended but I Only Travel First Class found us a great flight – with very few other passengers – to Honolulu and then it was just an hour to Kona on Hawaiian Air.
They also helped us with our Thai Pass in order to return. Highly recommended travel agency!
